If dogs run free, a song by Bob Dylan, has acquired a whole new dimension in this space created by the Tzou Lubroth Architekten practice. This inspiring territory, a bar situated on Gumpendorfer Straße , in Vienna, was founded by an actress, a restaurateur, a graphic designer and two architects with the objective of creating a meeting place, where students and neighbours could come to have a drink and explore new ideas outside the academic environment or galleries. The 82 m2 space emerges from a black box which enhances the ceiling, an area designed to accommodate the site-specific installations created by designers and artists around the theme ‘Mensh und Natur’ (“Human Being and Nature”) and which will occupy these premises for a year. The first installation was designed and constructed by the owners and portrays an inverted mountainous landscape resorting to the manipulation of geometric mosaics which give rise to a finely graded chromatic patchwork multiplied by the reflections of the mirrored surface of the bar counter. The black furniture and walls, devoid of any decoration, and the porous asphalt floor and a flexible lighting system also play an important role in the installation, stimulating fantasy and creativity
